About the calculator
With the CLV calculator you work out closing line value, that is how much better or worse odds you got than the market's last odds before kick-off.
How does the CLV calculator work?
Enter the odds you got and the closing odds on the same outcome. Also enter the closing odds on the other outcomes, so the calculator removes the bookmaker's margin. It shows your raw CLV, the margin, the fair closing odds and your CLV with the margin removed.
What is closing line value?
Closing line value, CLV, is the difference between the odds you got and the fair closing odds, that is the market's last odds before kick-off with the margin removed. If you got 2.35 and the fair closing odds were 2.20, your CLV is 6.8 per cent.
If you beat the closing odds again and again you have an edge, however the bets ended. The guide on closing line value has the formula, the pitfalls and how many bets it takes.
A CLV example
The closing odds were 2.10, 3.40 and 3.60. One divided by each gives 47.6, 29.4 and 27.8 per cent, a total of 104.8 per cent. The excess, 4.8 percentage points, is the margin.
The fair probability of the home win is 47.6 divided by 104.8, that is 45.4 per cent, and the fair closing odds are 2.20. If you got 2.35 your CLV is 2.35 divided by 2.20 minus one, that is 6.8 per cent.
Raw against 2.10 it would have looked like 11.9 per cent. Always calculate with the margin removed, otherwise you seem to beat the market more often than you do.

Gamble responsibly
A positive CLV does not mean the bet wins, only that you got better odds than the market. Decide in advance how much you want to stake and stick to it.
